Safeco Field’s sustainability bona fides just got another boost. ElectricChoice.com, a coalition of electricity consultants that operate a marketplace to connect private and commercial customers with affordable power, rated MLB ballparks for energy efficiency and ranked Safeco Field #1.
The survey singled out the LED field lights that use half the power of the old fixtures while providing superior lighting for players, fans and the TV broadcast. They also noted the solar panel array that generates 40,000 kWh of electricity a year.
These and other changes have helped Safeco Field to the lowest energy intensity rating of any ballpark in MLB.
Rounding out the top five are:
- Target Field – Minnesota Twins
- Busch Stadium – St. Louis Cardinals
- Nationals Park – Washington Nationals
- Marlins Park – Miami Marlins
